Relapse Prevention Program
At any one of our locations you will meet with a wide variety of highly skilled, knowledgeable and compassionate clinicians, counselors and medical staff members. What you’ll take away from them all is their focus on relapse prevention throughout the continuum of care.
In the detox portion of care, accurate clinical and medical assessments are fundamental so individualized care and FDA approved medication to reduce the severity of withdrawal symptoms can be provided. As most people understand, detox and FDA approved medications to curb withdrawal symptoms alone will not curb the desire for a person suffering from addiction to use again. This is why it’s vital for high quality treatment programs to not only offer Relapse Prevention Programs but to emphasize their importance in the continuum of care.
According to an article published in the Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine by Steven M. Melemis,
“There are four main ideas in relapse prevention. First, relapse is a gradual process with distinct stages. The goal of treatment is to help individuals recognize the early stages, in which the chances of success are greatest. Second, recovery is a process of personal growth with developmental milestones. Each stage of recovery has its own risks of relapse. Third, the main tools of relapse prevention are cognitive therapy and mind-body relaxation, which change negative thinking and develop healthy coping skills. Fourth, most relapses can be explained in terms of a few basic rules. Educating clients in these few rules can help them focus on what is important.”
About Our Relapse Prevention Program
The Relapse Prevention Programs offered at our 7 locations teach clients to understand their triggers for use, how to avoid these triggers and other dangerous and unhealthy environments as well as many other tools to recognize when relapse is eminent and how to ask for help.
Specific approaches to help people understand relapse prevention can include cognitive behavioral therapy, individual and group therapy sessions and/or workshops designed to teach stress reduction and the role and importance of a healthy diet and regular exercise in living a sober life long term.
Locations Offering Our Relapse Prevention Program
Our 7 locations are located in upscale locations in sunny Southern California just north of San Diego. They are close to the beach, the mountains and the desert. In our inpatient residential programs, staff regularly take clients on outings to learn to live a healthy life in sobriety.
